A lawn service has to have a license and charter to do this!

They also must have certified applicators.

Beware of services that say somebody else does their chemical applications.

TennLawn has it covered for you!

TennLawn's Approach to Chemical Lawn Treatment and Fertilizer:

This information is to educate you on our approach in this most important category.

This consists of getting rid of what you don't want in your lawn and keeping what you want plus feeding it to make your lawn more attractive and uniform.

There are two (2) different categories of lawn weeds:

  • Broad Leaf

  • Grassy Weeds

Broad Leaf weeds occur spring and fall.

Grassy  weed occur during summer months.

These different categories of lawn weeds germinate at different times of the year, requiring different application dates.

We use a six step approach to lawn treatment and fertilization.

  • Service Round 1 - Pre-emerge, post emerge, and colorant - Mid February-March

  • Service Round 2 - Pre-emerge, post emerge and granular fertilizer - Mid April

  • Service Round 3 - Post-emerge and granular fertilizer - with inspection for insects - June

  • Service Round 4 - Post-emerge and granular fertilizer - with inspection for insects - August

  • Service Round 5 - Pre-emerge, post emerge, and granular fertilizer - October

  • Service Round 6 - Lime - (spot spray of Glyphosate if needed) - December

  • (Optional) Service Round 7 - Core Aeration

What is Core Aeration?

Core Aeration is a program that is used when the grass is compacted and the Thatch level is high in the ground.

Ways that Core Aeration can benefit your lawn:

  • Reduces Thatch

  • Increases air-to-soil transfer

  • Improves water absorption

  • Encourages stronger roots for thicker turf

  • Increases effectiveness of fertilizer

  • Increases effectiveness of weed and insect control

  • Enhances drought stress tolerance

We periodically soil test the lawns because in Tennessee most soils become acid (sour) unless lime is applied.  P. H. levels in a soil test should be between 6.5 and 7.0 to insure maximum effects of fertilizer.  When acid levels increase the need for lime is needed.  Late Fall is the best time of the year for this lime application and the perfect Christmas gift for your lawns.

Fertilizing:

We use nitrogen in the growing months but going into dormant season more Phosphorus and Potassium for winter hardiness.

Nitrogen - promotes rapid plant growth, encourages a dense lawn, and produces a dark green color.

Phosphorus - develops strong and fibrous root system.

Lime - Keep P. H. and Thatch levels correct.

Potassium - increases the resistance of grasses to disease and improves the hardiness of lawns to temperature and moisture stress.

Onions and garlic may require extra applications.

A chemical application and fertilizer program adds beauty and professionalism to your property whether commercial or residential.

A lawn is easier to cut and there is less lawn care cutting at the beginning of the spring.

Pre-emerge chemicals applied in late fall and early spring controls summer annuals; crabgrass, goose-grass, Johnson grass, foxtails, etc..

Post-emerge chemicals are applied to foliage that is all ready up and growing.

We also recommend an optional Core Aeration program in the Spring.

What corrected compacted grass and high Thatch levels?

What is normally done to grounds with this problem is removing thousands of pencil-sized plugs from your lawn to open passageways for oxygen, nutrients and moisture.  Core Aeration helps fertilizer and other beneficial materials reach the root system more effectively.

Proper weed control and fertilization program at an area school.

Proper weed control and fertilization applied by TennLawn are by innovative machines called "Turf Trackers".  This equipment has a chemical tank underneath, an extra tank in back, and a motorized fertilizer spreader in front.

When this machine is in operation, it applies an even amount of chemical down with a switch in the floorboard to turn and off at the "turnaround" zone.  This ensures an even amount of chemical applied to an area.  The unit is also equipped with a wand for tight spaces.

Walking with a chemical hose is a thing of the past.  High acreage areas are monitored by wide boom tractors, sprayers, and fertilizer spreaders.
